Oh to be in England?

I started this blog on 28th of March.  Today is the 16th of April.

At least the threat of severe frost has gone.  It was a sizzling (sic) 14 C (57F) the other day.

The central heating is off though this might not be for long.

We have had the roof down on the Astra, when it wasn’t actually raining, but kept the heating on full .

I do like the fresh air (cough cough) but I fell out of love with motor-bikes about 40 years ago.

I struggle to ride a bike while I await knee surgery.

The legal time went forwards early this morning which means the clock in the

bathroom shows  the correct hour for the first

time in 6 months.

Spring forward; Fall (Autumn) back.

There’s usually one clock that gets missed.

Strange that Daylight Saving Time was instigated for WWI but we still operate it.

The garden is growing but not so quickly as to need drastic maintenance.

I let the grass grow long at this time of year to gain strength not only as cynics might think to avoid the  work involved in cutting it.

I have  seeded some bare patches and put a net over the area.  I

like feeding the birds but they cannot

have my grass seeds.  I have trimmed the hedge once.

I have removed the stems of flowers that have now finished blooming to reveal other plants which had been covered.

The bulbs I planted before Christmas are mostly in flower and there are fresh buds on the roses.

Lots of hanging baskets now refreshed and sown mostly with seeds from last years flowers.  I had a coffee jar full of French Marigold seeds and thousands of sunflower seeds too.

They will be planted in a bed near the front wall of the house shortly.

UPDATE now about

1/2 an inch high shoots showing see photo.

I have cleaned the barbecue in hopes of a really nice day tomorrow.

I know that’s tempting fate but I love a bit of an adventure.

A gas barbecue

feels like cheating but it does have lava stones to catch the

drips and flavour the cooking.

There are lamb chops, chicken legs and burgers in the fridge plus I do like peppers and aubergine grilled on the BBQ.

Taking a further risk with fate, I know, but it should be a good time to give the cars a clean.

Car washes are still closed as they are considered none essential.

UPDATE opened 12th of April.

I cannot imagine how they could be considered Covid unsafe.

Passing a 5 pound note through the

driver’s window is the closest contact between

the customer and the attendant.
